Been busy yesterday cutting out this pumpkin, looks great in the dark. We also had fun making some biscuits in the shape of ghosts, bats and witches for a party we were attending.

These are a few of my favourite things, they are in the conservatory which I have painted a pale green. Most of the ornaments are either vintage or country style in either green or cream. It is now starting to look lovely and I am pleased with the results.

Just love these old fashioned roses, they smell so nice, also picked some flowers and other plants grown in the woodland part of the garden.

Love this little metal bird, looks cute in the bird feeder.

Love this cute feed birder and felt it is too nice to put outside and instead I have placed the cute little bird inside and placed it on the window sill.

Brought these coasters while on holiday, love the old vintage scenes and match the colour of the walls perfectly.

Also love this metal jug, perfect for displaying flowers.

My collection of old bottles, I have now displayed them differently, will show you in a few days what I have achieved.

Love this vintage style metal sign, it looks good on this green wall.

My favourite newgate clock, it has an antiqued face with a metal cream casing.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at my ornaments in the conversatory.

Elderflower Champagne

Now is the time to have a go at making elderflower champagne. We had a go at making some today and I was surprised how easy it is to make. Here is a really simple recipe.

Making elderflower champagne is easy:-

• Go pick half a dozen full elderflower heads ideally on a sunny day when they are most fragrant.

• Half fill a clean bucket with 2 gallons of cold water (thats 10 Litres for my Euro chums)

• dissolve 2lbs (1kg) of white sugar into the water

• shake any debris and insects clear from the elderflower heads and immerse in the water

• Cut two lemons in half squeeze juice into water and throw in the squeezed halfs

• add a splosh (4 tablespoons) of white wine vinegar

• stir gently and cover with a clean tea towel

• leave for 24 hours stirring occasionally

After 24 hours, sterilise plastic carbonated drinks bottles – 10 x 1 litre lemonade/pop bottles are ideal – and strain jugfuls of the liquor through a sieve or muslin cloth into the bottles and screw the plastic tops on firmly.

Leave for a week and the naturally occurring yeast on the elderflower heads begins to ferment with the sugar creating a very weak alcohol content but lots of carbon dioxide.

Surprised to see some snow yesterday afternoon. We thought it wasn't going to touch our part of the country. These were taken this morning. I love looking at it, but must of admit hate having to drive in it.

New Kitchen Storage Jars

I must admit I haven't been a very good blogger lately, but I will try and make an effort now on these dark winter evenings. I have been up to alot lately and all will be revealed later.

It was such a lovely day yesterday we decided to visit the lovely city of Hereford. I was looking for an outfit for my work's christmas party but just couldn't decide on anything.

I spotted these kitchen storage jars and we both liked them. They are by Charlotte Watson. For now we decided to buy the tea and sugar but will eventually collect some more. They look great in the kitchen as our worktops are black and the tops are blacks so they match well.

Also purchased some new oven gloves. Really likes these with the little hearts, purchased these from Wyevale Garden Centre.

A day off

The school is closed today as it is used as a polling station. Looks like a horrible wet day, so I think we will have to cancel our planned picnic and bike ride. Thinking about what else to do today, but some little people are still in bed catching up with their sleep. I'll keep you posted.

Vintage Fabric Covered Notebook

Yesterday listed this journal in my Folksy shop. This is one of my favourites and it made from beautiful lilac vintage German and French fabric from the 1930's and 1940's. I am very tempted to keep it for myself if it doesn't sell.

It would make an excellent gift for someone who appreciates vintage items. I've Included a few pictures to show the back and closeup.

Off out now into the sun, I have some seeds to plant for the garden .

Spring Flowers in the garden

We have been really busy over the last couple of weekends and due to the nice weather have weeded all the flower beds. We have even put down chipped wood, which we have chipped ourselves from old branches from the wooded area. It is nice to get on top of the weeding. The layer of chipped wood saves alot of time weeding and keeps the plants moist so therefore saves on watering.

A few pictures of the pretty spring flowers in our garden. I love auricula (bottom middle) and are looking for more.

About time for an update

One of my followers left me a message (thanks Hazel) looking forward to an update. It is about time. Still had the snow effect on the blog, which is now removed. I have been really busy over the last few weeks. I have been updating my etsy and folksy shops. Things are slowly taking off but it probably takes time to get established.

Had some news the other day that I may be able to go back to full-time work. It has been a big decision which may mean three early mornings for me and my son. Still not sure if it is the right thing to do, but time will tell. A few mums have said "is the extra money really worth it".

Have a look at these lovely journals I have been making. If you fancy a commission please let me know, I love a challenge.

Things are getting back to normal

I don't know where all the time has gone over these last few months. Within the last 3 or 4 weeks things are now finally getting back to normal. Three weeks ago I returned to work. My foot and leg is now back to normal, but still feels stiff sometimes. This morning received a letter off the police that the other driver has been officially cautioned for driving without due care and attention. I feel that a cloud has been lifted and finally I can put this episode of my life behind me. Over the last three or four months has been a worry having to deal with insurance companies, police, solicitors, doctors, hospitals and having treatment with physiotherapy. I feel very lucky that we have both come through it ok. Anyway enough said on the matter and time to move on.

Things must be getting back to normal as I have been in my craft room again making a load of lovely items. I am really pleased with them and they have been fun to make. All will be revealed very soon.

Christmas Decorations

These are some tree decorations. I have had these decorations for years and look forward to getting them out year after year. I adore the gold apples and pears and they look really pretty when they shine from the white lights. I must admit I am not keen on colored flashing Christmas lights. Also I am not a fan of flashing lights you put on your house, every time I prefer plain little white lights every time.

I love this little dog it is my sons, you can put sweets in the stocking, so cute.

I had this nativity stable for a present last year. My son loves it probably because they all have smiling faces.

These lights are also a favourite of mine, it looks lovely on the window sill.

I made this heart just recently, the gold is embroidered and it took a while. I have given it away as a present. I will have to make another for myself, it is so pretty. I started making one with the wording "let it snow".

I am about ready for Christmas, just need to another food shop and that is it. I always leave the vegetables and fruit until a few days before. I store them out in the box in our garden room as they last longer in the cold, there is not enough room in my fridge. I find with the central heating they don't seem to last long. Also need to do some wrapping but that won't take long.

Kirstie's Homemade Christmas

Last night watched Kirstie's Homemade Christmas, it is a three part series. The last one is on tonight at 8.00pm on Channel 4. I really enjoyed it and it has inspired me to get on and make my own christmas cake and mince pies. Also fancy having a go at making some feastive decorations. But as we all know time does permit, but nice thought.

Fancy having a go at making a Christmas Stocking like this one. My little one watched it with me but he should have been in bed. He was inspired as well and wants to make salt dough decorations. We may have a go at the weekend for abit of fun. We made them a few years ago and baked them in the oven but they didn't bake hard enough and fell apart. This recipe uses the microwave. Has anyone else had any success?

The picture above shows what they will be making tonight. I am looking forward to seeing it again.

Two Little Bears

Just look at what my friend makes. She is so talented, as the wool is from her own sheep, washed, dyed and then handspun. Finally she knits the wool into these little cute bears measuring approx 24 cm high. Such alot of work and a labour of love. She handspins all the wool herself and tells me it is such a relaxing hobby.

Advent Calendar

I have for a few years fancied making an advent calendar for my son, that he can use year after year. I have been gathering ideas for a theme. I was thinking of making a house with a load of windows and doors, then I thought it might look abit girly. My next idea was a tree. Just look at this wooden one above from Laura Ashley or this one below, a house made of fabric. They are both gorgeous, both are from Laura Ashley.

This one looks fun with the reindeer you place into each numbered pocket.

I fancy doing one like this Christmas tree, and making a design on each pocket. Mind you could take a while, not sure if it will be made in time for this year. We can only try....

Or if you have plenty of time, look at this lovely cross stitched design. It would probably take me years.

Or this one would make a nice simple design, especially if you cut out fabric in christmas images and sewed them onto each pocket. At the moment gathering my thoughts and will let you know what I decide to do. Please let me know if anyone else has made one?

Well, I have had a little break this week and things are now getting back to normal. I am still off work for another fortnight and hope to get back behind the steering wheel very soon.

I’ve just read my last few posts, sorry it sounds awful now. But at the time it was and now hope to get back to the nicer things in life, like putting more energy into creating lovely things. I am resting, but who can resist reading and commenting these lovely blogs.

It has simply made my life easier and I am so grateful for their generosity. (Beginning to sound like a speech).

Another Day

Found a nice free Autumn picture. This morning I woke to sunshine and felt so much better. I thought to myself a new day, a new start, time to move on. Sorry about yesterday just abit under the weather. My son went with his cousins last night to a firework display and really enjoyed it. My little one is so thoughtful he said "never mind mummy it's only a car, we can always get you another red one". Yes I said we are more important and we gave each other a hug. We've had many well wishers, flowers, chocolates and cards. Also arranged a delivery of flowers to a lovely couple who helped us, they were so kind waiting with us until the ambulance arrived.

This evening I have switched off the t.v. It is so peaceful and I am having such pleasure in listening to the rain outside and watching the flickering of the fire. I am wrapped up in a blanket with a nice cup of tea. At the moment simple things in life are more important.

Glad we are ok

Just letting you know that we are both ok. I won't go into too much detail as it is upsetting, but on Tuesday morning my son and myself were involved in a car accident on the way to school. We were involved in an head-on collusion on the main road. It was no fault of my own as that morning we had reduced our speed due to the wet conditions. The other driver was obviously in a rush and gave no thought for other road users. Due to the road conditions they lost control of their car. We are both very lucky and still thanking my lucky stars that we both live to see another day. I am coming to terms with it gradually, but still very angry with the other driver for putting our lives at risk. I now have no car and can't work until my condition improves.

I do hope that the other driver is making a full recovery.

This morning I have been reading your blogs which have given me such pleasure and taken my mind off the incident. Also they have given me some inspiration that I must get my sewing out soon.

Hopefully I will be back soon with nicer news.

Happy again - Hurray back online

Hi everyone, I've been offline for at least a fortnight with internet problems. It is a long story, but I will give you the details. I have hated not been able to get on the internet, can't check my emails, check facebook and read my favourite blogs. I have been so desperate I ended up calling into the library for a few minutes just to check my emails, just in case I missed something.

It all started with the internet light on my router going off every so often and having to reset it. This should have been a warning that things were on their way out, but instead I just continued. Them one evening it stopped working all together. Tested it on another PC, checked all the obvious things e.g the cables, tested it in another phone socket etc etc. I decided to ring our internet provider and they promised to send another router in the post. Still haven't received it, I can't blame it on the post as we are receiving other mail ok. After about 10 days got sick of waiting and decided to buy one instead. I will now blame and shame a reputable supplier. Called at Curry's and asked for advice and explained that I needed a new broadband router which it suitable for a bt line. The customer adviser in the shop showed me a few and then out of them choose a well known make. Went to the pay and the lady asked if had checked that I have the correct router. Explained that it was picked off the shelf by one of staff. At home found out it was the wrong one, it was for a cable connection not bt. Anyway took it back to another branch to get my money back and they refused as it had been opened. Asked to speak to the head of sales and explained that I asked for a bt line broadband router and this was what I was given. When I started saying that the staff should have some training on the goods that they are selling, he said I could have a refund. Home again, rang the internet provided again and they said they would look into why I had not received the router. Another day out shopping again, this time with hubby, we called into Curry's and we found a suitable router ourselves, even had bt connection stamped in bold on the outside of the box. While paying for the item, again they stated about the advice. We both said No at the same time, I explained that this was my third visit and didn't want to come back again on a 4th visit and that the staff in the shop don't know the products they are selling (secretly hoping that I had the correct one).

That evening connected up the router and with one quick call to the provider, after changing one setting was on online at last. Hurray.

Old Rusty Relics

I love this old interesting key, it is quite big, must have been one mighty door. We found this at our last house in an old shed. It is very rusty and needs cleaning up.

Also we found this old iron. It is very heavy, it must have been hard work ironing in those days. Both need cleaning up to stop the flaking rust. I think it would be a pity to paint them.

The other day I purchased this old typewriter from an antiques shop, not bad for £5.00, far cheaper than buying alphabet ink stamps. Typed this poem and I am pleased with the results.

Giveaway Prize

I still haven't shown you the beautiful recent giveway from Jane at Applique. Such a lovely giveaway prize. Inside the parcel was two brooches which I had chosen. Also a bar of chocolate and some lip salve. The chocolate quickly disappeared and I was promised some but didn't see any. My 4 year old decided to share it out and when my back was turned he ate the lot. His excuse was I thought you didn't want it.

Both of the brooches are now pride of place on my shelves in my sewing room, such a joy to look it with these lovely colours.

Also love this painted postcard. Thanks again to Jane it made my day. I might have a giveaway soon.

I had a lovely surprise the other day, I had won a giveway. Please take a look at these gorgeous brooches from Jane , each brooch is a work of art in itself. All of her work is unique with fantastic colours. She also has an etsy shop called designedbyjane. I had to think up a name for the brooches and came up with the name Tudor Rose. Beautiful Sunny Autumn Weekend

What a lovely weekend, I love Autumn days like these. But it went really cold as soon as the sun went down. Cleaned all the downstairs windows, they were filthy from spider webs, had to wash them first, before shinning the glass. Then weeded a flower bed and covered it with a mulch. Also planted some snowdrops and helped plant some heathers. Then had some fun with my camera, took these photos of autumn plants around the garden. I uploaded them to flickr then used a free piece of software to produce this mosaic of pictures. Took some time but I am pleased with the results. Such beautiful Autumn colours.

I love these pictures, isn't nature so magical. Manage to take these as the sun was shinning though the trees. These pictures are great inspiration. Looking forward to taking some more when the first frosts start. Then I made some time to have a nice cup of tea, sat out on the patio in the sun and read this, thats what I call bliss. Hope you all had a good weekend.

Framed Original Vintage Style Fabric Art on Bees

I have been busy lately and have listed this applique into my Etsy shop, and for my blogger friends it is also available in my blog shop too.

All the lace and buttons are vintage/old and the fabric images have been devised to give them a vintage style look.

I have really enjoyed making them and I am really pleased with the way it has turned out. There are others in the pipeline. Almost finished another one with the theme of roses which will be listed very soon.

Amy Butler Fabrics

Look at these lovely fabrics from Amy Butler. I only purchased a metre in total from our local fabric quilting shop, may have to go back for more. These four really coordinate well. It was a pity they didn't supply the whole range. I was looking for colours that would match with turquoise and light brown. It would be lovely to make a quilt out of them, but I would not be brave enough. For a start could make a patchwork cushion and see how I get on. I fancy making one for a chair in the bedroom. I always thought the design on these fabrics were large because it gives that impression on the Internet. Also I find it is hard to match the colours whilst purchasing online. The fabric is 100% cotton and very good quality, I'll take another photo with a measuring tape and give you full details of each pattern in case one of you are interested. Please note that the colours are brighter in real life to that on this photo and may vary to that showing on your monitor. Just to confuse matters.

Here goes, the top measuring tape is in inches and the bottom in cms. Starting from the left:-

Planted up some Succulents

Such a lovely day and out in the garden again. I decided to replant up these succulents I purchased a while back. Do you remember these old earthen ware pots that are glazed on the inside? I remember my Grandma use to have one and used it when they made their own butter. Hubby carefully drilled a drainage hole in the bottom a while back.

Both of these succulents would look nice together in this pot.

That's better, there was only room for one of those plants and two smaller cuttings, (hope they take). Tipped some gravel around the plant and decorated it with tiny pebbles. Placed it back on the window sill because these plants don't like the wet and I will bring it back out again next Summer. I am pleased with the results.

Butterflies in the garden

It was a lovely day yesterday and looks like it will be the same today. Did a load of weeding etc and hope to finish it off today. Hoping to finish off planting some heathers, will show you the photos later. While gardening I spent ages taking these photos of these beautiful butterflies, they are so pretty.

Craft Classes

Craft Classes start again tonight and looking forward to it. We have a list of items that we should take along if we have them. I must admit I haven't got any of this stuff, good job they can provide them . The list includes cutting mat, ruler, pencil, craft knife, cutting scissors, decoupage scissors, sticky stuff i.e. finger left, PVA glue, folding board and peel offs. By the list look like we will be making cards. I will keep you posted on progress.

Blackberry and Apple Crumble

Don't you love this time of year when you can pick loads of fruit and make some lovely home cooked dishes. A firm favourite in our family is blackberry and apple crumble. I must admit I've picked enough around our garden for about 4 crumbles in the last couple of weeks. As soon as I've picked say about half an pint jug I check there are no stalks left and wash them well and and place them in the freezer. Nothing beats it along with a roast dinner on a damp and dull Autumn day.

The recipe is really easy and here it is:-

Blackberry and Apple Crumble

3 large cooking apples

Half a pint or thereabouts of Blackberries

4oz Flour

2oz Margarine

4oz Sugar

You will also need a deep 8-10 inch ovenproof baking dish.
Grease the dish well. Peel, core and chop the apples and arrange on the base of the bowl and place the blackberries on top. Sprinkle half the sugar over the fruit, and cover with 2-3 tablespoons of water.
Now in a separate bowl rub together the flour and the butter, to make the "crumble". Place this over the fruit. Sprinkle the remaining sugar over the top, and bake in a slow-medium oven for 45 minutes, or until the "crumble" is a golden brown (Gas Mark 3-5, 180-190 C, 350-375 F). Delicious on its own, or with icecream, custard or cream.

I am so happy I've just won these beautiful old buttons on ebay. Will be fun to sort them if nothing else. I hope to use them to add to some items. Looks like some of them still have the original threads attached. I have been looking for a while, but some of them do appear to go for a fair price so hopefully they are exactly as I see them.

In the next couple of days I will be starting a craft class. I am looking forward to it and hope to learn something new. Also hope to launch the blog shop very soon. So will keep you all posted with the news.

This lovely blue polka dot fabric arrived in the post this morning. This polka dot fabric goes brillantly with these paisley fabrics. I have decided to make some more polka dot bags for my online shop.

It is a shame, but the craft class was cancelled due to the teacher being ill. But it will be run next week, so will let you know the outcome.

I am back again, taken a small break from blogland but hopefully will update you with more frequent news. I am now back to part-time work, but there is so much to do at home, the lists are endless. The house needs finishing off as there are so many DIY jobs still outstanding. Still looking for a full-time position, but I can't find anything locally in my field. I have decided I am not travelling 50 miles to work, as it is now out of the question with trying to get the little one to school before the journey. We have decided to finish off the house for the time being and then we will have to make some big decisions.

Craft Classes

I am really looking forward to Thursday. Since about last year my local craft shop has been holding weekly craft "make and take home" classes with a different craft each week. This week's class will be the last one before the summer break, but it will be starting again in the September. I thought I might go along and give it a try, might learn something new. A few months ago I was interested in a knitting/crochet class but it was cancelled due to lack of support.

What a bargain

Last Thursday went into Aldi's and came away with these lovely geraniums. What a bargain at £1.99 a tray. So in all spent £3.98 which will brighten up the garden in the coming months. Looking forward to seeing them flowering. If the weather picks up this weekend I will be planting them out.

Thanks for your comments, I am miles better this week. I have been working long hours this week and will be working full-time over the next couple of weeks, then dropping back to part-time. So the extra money will be nice. I actually enjoy working, in this particular job it gives you a real sense of achievement when you have sorted out a problem and people are even so grateful. We are sorting out a nasty computer virus which has hit around 1500 pc's. For those of you who totally rely on your pc/laptop you can imagine what it is like to be without it or most of the software not working. We are up to our eyes in it, we have now got rid of the virus but the problems it has left behind is horrendous.

Hope to relax this weekend with a whole of crafting.

The dreaded illness

The dreaded illness returned. Last weekend stayed in bed for most of it, (what a waste of a bank holiday) and at the beginning of the week it was starting to clear so managed to go to work, but shouldn't have really. The doctor said it may come back. For the last few days have been feeling better but still have a constant headache which I am trying to control with paracetamol. I hate taking tablets and only take them if I really need to, if there was an alternative I would try that first. If it doesn't go soon I think I'll need another trip back to the docs.

Feeling like my old self again, certaintly don't want that illness again. The photo doesn't exactly match, but I thought it was pretty. This tree stands in the wooded part of our garden and is surrounded with celandines

Today was a slightly sad day for me and very momentous, my "little one" started school. He looked so grown up in his new uniform and was very happy to start school. He was as good as gold when we met his new teacher in the playground and introduced each other, he didn't say alot (not like him) and all I could hear from him was large sighs of relief. Then when the bell rang he marched into school like the rest, he didn't turn round to say goodbye, until I shouted "bye, have a good day" and he turned, waved and said "bye mummy".

We were talking earlier on the way to school and I said that mummy will miss him and that the house will now be quiet. He said "I won't miss you because I will be really busy making lots of new friends", I had to smile and thought thats my boy. This last week he has been telling everyone that he will be starting "big boys school soon".

I've also been making endless lists of all the things I am going to sort and do, most of it includes decorating and finishing off half started jobs of DIY etc.

I've been unwell with Viral Labyrinthitis

Since about Sunday, I haven't been very well, never had anything like it in my life, hope it goes soon as it is not pleasant. I'm off work for the rest of the week.

Sun, Mon and Tues I was constantly vomiting, felt dizzy, bad headaches and sure I was seeing double vision at one stage.

I managed to get myself to the doctors on Tuesday, I shouldn't have driven but was getting desperate. He said I had Viral Labyrinthitis and gave me some medication. When I get bad I just have to go to bed to lie down.

According to the NHS - Labyrinthitis is an inflammation of a structure in your inner ear called the labyrinth. You have a labyrinth in your inner ears, deep in the bone at the base of your skull. It contains the delicate structures that control your hearing and balance.

No washing up has been done, no tidying or hoovering, no food shopping or clothes washing done. The rest of the household will just have to survive for a few days without me, just hope it goes soon.

Easter Swap

I opened it with my son, he was more excited then me, he said "look mummy a teddy". In a flash he had taken it from the box and started prancing around the room singing "my new teddy", looks like he has claimed ownership. He has already named him "Sid". Then he came back and was trying the same tactic with the rabbit and chocolates. "Can I have a chocolate mummy?". My reply "we will have to wait until Sunday".

Lovely rabbit and picture, both green, so I will display these on a shelf that we may put up this weekend.

I love the mug, in fact just what I wanted, it will be put to good use. I now have my own mug and I will try and resist not using it until Sunday. Also love the bag and will definately use it for my shopping.

Easter Card and Decorations

The "little one" has been busy at Nursery and these came home with him yesterday. The wrapped item is a painted wooden eggcup containing a chocolate egg. Inside the basket is a choc crispy cake decorated with eggs and a little chick. He has been asking if we can now make some at home. It would be a nice idea, I will have to add chocolate and crispies to the next shopping list.

Saturday afternoon the "little one" said he would like to climb a really high mountain and have a picnic on the top. Not a bad idea and it was a nice day, packed some food, walking boots on and off we went....

I am really pleased that my sweetpeas are up and doing so well. Just a tip, after they produce two leaves nip them, then they will start to bush. Looking forward to seeing them in flower. Also planted some primula and cowslip seeds. Will keep you all posted on progress.

My lovely hubby gave me some roses, really beautiful. Who said romance can be dead after a few years of marriage or being together. We have been together now at least fifteen years. He was telling me how he was reminding all his male colleagues at work, that they should buy flowers and a few were laughing it off that it wasn't important.

They even had red tissue paper in between the cellophane wrapping.

I've placed them in one of my favourite vases and placed them on the window sill.

Managed to grab a treasury this evening, was watching it like a hawk and then went in for the kill. You have to watch for the list to come down below 333, keep yourself logged in and at the bottom it will open up for you to add a title. It was quite exciting, as this was my first time. I was afraid that if you didn't do it quick enough that you may loose your place, but I don't think that is the case, as long as you put in a title it saves it for you.

Decided on a theme of pink on the spare of the moment. Next time I think I will do all the research before hand and have my title ready. I did have a look through all our fellow bloggers, but not many of you had any pink items, but perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough, I found some and I have included the lucky few.

Flapjacks

I fancied making some flapjacks this afternooon. The recipe is below, I have altered it slightly to include raisins, but that is optional.

It appears to be a favourite in our household, next time I make some I will double the recipe. I was going to photo them but they weren't around long enough.

Recipe for Flapjacks

4oz Margarine or better still butter
3oz (just under 1/2 cup) golden syrup
3oz (just under 1/2 cup) sugar
8oz (approx 2 2/3 cups) rolled oats
2oz raisins (optional)

Put butter, syrup and sugar in large glass bowl and place in microwave. Heat until melted. If you don’t have a microwave then use a saucepan on the stove top.

Stir in oats and raisins (optional) and mix well
Spread in a 9″ x 12″ well greased baking sheet and press down with the back of a cold metal spoon.
Cook for 20-30 mins at 350F (180C)

Leave to cool for 5 mins and then cut into squares, it needs to be cut whilst soft. Then enjoy!!

Fun in the Snow

My hubby and the "little one" were busy this morning building "Mr Snowman". Then there was a request that he should have a dog.

So, here is the "snow dog". Leaves were used for his ears and tongue. The "little one" must have come in about four times to warm up his hands and feet, love him.

Love is in the air

We had about 2 inches of snow this afternoon, there wasn't enough to sledge or make a snowman, but the "little one" was quite happy making tracks all around the garden. He said now that its snowing do you think Father Christmas might come back. I had to smile.

I found this gorgeous fabric a couple of weeks ago, so decided to make a load of these hearts. This fabric is a lovely Scandinavian/folk design. I have listed them on etsy a few weeks ago. I was quite pleased that I had a sale this morning for one of these.

My "Little One" is Four

I can't believe that my "little one" was four yesterday.

December and January have been expensive months, with a load of bills to pay including house and car insurance and two MOTs. So I wasn't prepared to compromise on his present. Earlier in the month Tescos had a half price sale on all it's sports equipment, so we purchased a scooter for £7.50 (bargain). When I was at the recycling tip the other week there was a brand-new bike for sale, managed to get it for £3.00 (bargain). The only problem with it, the brakes didn't work and the wheel was buckled. Hubby managed to fix the brakes and took the wheel to a cycle shop to get it sorted, that cost £5.00, but still a cheap bike for £8.00. Also got him a few tops from M&S, as we get tokens every few weeks for using their credit card for petrol etc. He loved his presents and was very pleased with the bike, he can't wait to go "bikeling" as he calls it. Just hoping for some sunshine soon, then we will be off on our bikes.

After we came back from school, we had a birthday tea with a yummy chocolate sponge birthday cake to finish off the celebration.

Planting Sweetpea Seeds

This morning was lovely and sunny, so I went out to the garage and decided to plant some seeds.

I've been collecting loo roll tubes for a while now, with the intention of using them for this purpose. I can't take all the credit as I got the idea from Louise Love, I think she planted her seeds in the Autumn. Last year I planted them around March and they didn't get going earlier enough and only started flowering around Aug/Sept, so this year I've decided to start them off abit earlier. Some experts say you should start them in the Autumn, but we'll see what happens, abit of trial and error.

So this is what i've done.

I taped them together with cellotape into a circle.

Placed some newspaper on a plastic tray and filled them with compost and then popped one seed into each roll.

I've placed the tray on the window sill of our conservatory, which we don't heat where they should get plenty of light.

I'll keep you posted on progress.

Salt Dough

We had fun today making some salt dough. It's really easy and cheap to make. I brought some of the real stuff, but it didn't last long and is now banned from the living room after getting stuck in the carpet.

Here is the recipe, great idea if its raining outside and they are bored.

Playdough
200g plain flour
1 tablespoon of cooking oil
100g salt
300ml water
2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
A few drops of food colouring

Put the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil into a large saucepan.
Add the food colouring slowly and mix it thoroughly to get rid of as many lumps as possible.
Put the pan over a low heat and cook, stirring constantly. It will begin to thicken very quickly.
Keep stirring until the dough becomes very stiff.
Take out of the pan and let it cool.
Put the pan to soak straight away.

Warning - the inside of the dough will be hot for a long time. To keep the dough fresh, store it in a sealed bag or tub with a tight fitting lid.

My hubby has done a decent job, and over the last few months has managed to tile the porch, hall, kitchen, utility and loo in floor tiles. He has worked hard, and the deal was that I would grout and get it all finish off before Christmas. Christmas is almost here and I am now frantically trying to finish the job, I have been putting off for so long. I hate it, but now i've actually started it I am getting into the swing and determined to finish at least the hallway. We are hoping to move the sideboard over from the living room, back into the hall where it belongs before putting up the tree in it's place.

Oh well must get on, "time waits for no man (women)". Keep you posted on process.

Fantastic finds on holiday

Found this lovely old bird bath whilst on holiday and couldn't resist it. It was quite expensive but it is heavy metal and looks great in the garden. My hubby said he will make a stand for it.

Also purchased this lovely light green hanging bird table with a cooper roof.

Another day I came across a shop selling another type of bird bath but this one isn't for outside just for decorative purposes inside. It is made of a sort of plastic resin but look like old painted metal. It didn't have a price on it so I asked the shop owner how much he wanted for it. He said make me an offer whilst thinking what it was worth, I was thinking around the £5 mark, he said I can have it for £2.00, that what I call a bargain.

Bonfire Night Soup

Parsnip and Apple Soup

25g (1oz) butter or margarine
700g (1 and half lb) parsnips, peeled and roughly chopped
1 cooking apple, peeled and roughly chopped
1.1 Litres (2 pints) vegetable stock or 2 veg oxo cubes
4 Sage leaves
2 Cloves
150ml (5 fl oz) single cream
Salt and pepper

1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan; add the parsnips and apple, cover and cook gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Pour in the stock, and add the sage and cloves. Bring to the boil, cover, then simmer for 30 minutes or until the parsnips are very soft.
3. Remove the sage leaves and cloves; leave the soup to cool slightly; then puree in a blender or food processor.
4. Return the soup to the saucepan, add the cream and reheat gently. Season with salt and pepper. Serve hot and enjoy.
Serves 6 (For bonfire night I doubled the recipe and served it in mugs, may need spoons as it is a thick soup)
